The Women Mean Business Conference will be hosted at Southeastern on Thursday, March 14 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m in the Twelve Oaks Reception Hall. The conference is sponsored by the university’s Louisiana Small Business Development Center (LSBDC) and the Tangipahoa Professional Women organization.
Sandy Summers, the assistant director of LSBDC, said this of the conference, “It’s a women’s conference for professionals and new professionals to network and get information about leadership and business.”
Summers also said that the conference has a goal of raising scholarship money for women who are in college or are planning to go to college. The conference will have workshops for women who would like to increase their knowledge and build their skills.
“We have a few workshops. We have one that will focus on leadership and we have a session that will focus on social media and how as a professional we can use social media,” said Summers.
In addition, Summers said the conference will feature a workshop on personality types and how to work with people of the different types.
The conference will also give businesses owned by women a chance to build rapport with attendees.
“We’ll have vendors there,” said Summers, “Businesses owned by women in the area will set up at tables where you can talk to them and purchase products.”
Summers also said the conference will feature a silent auction and the Women Mean Fashion show during the lunch hour. Dress code at the conference is business casual and the cost to attend is $50. Southeastern students can attend at no charge.
