[Walker, La]– The 2017 Walker Pine Tree Festival has officially been postponed until September due to issues with the midway booking.
The Walker Pine Tree Festival is held the first weekend of May annually. This year the festival was scheduled for May 5-7 at Sidney Hutchinson Park in the city of Walker.
The festival board members released information stating that there were issues with the midway company double booking events, so they were forced to cancel. Under the Louisiana Association of Fairs and Festivals contract, the festival must host a midway in order to be in good standings with the organization.
Co-chairman Stacy McMorris said that this is a minor setback for a major comeback.
McMorris said, “We’re a small, growing festival who works hard to put on an event that celebrates our city and the people who live here. We won’t let this postponement get our spirits down.”
City officials in Walker have given the festival permission to move the festival to September 28 through October 1.
Miss Walker Pine Tree Festival Queen Mackenzie Johnson said, “I hate that we are having to postpone so close to our festival date, but I know that our community understands and will be just as excited to celebrate in September as they were for May.”
Other festival events including the 3rd annual car show, talent show, and craft show will be moved to the new festival dates. For any other questions or concerns, email the festival at firstname.lastname@example.org or visit www.walkerpinetreefestival.com.
