New Orleans, LA – The Prytania Theatre is hosting a one-week run of Mike Birbiglia’s semi-autobiographical film “Sleepwalk With Me,” which is only open in select screens nationwide. The movie is an adaptation of Birbiglia’s one-man show about being a budding comedian and learning to deal with a rare sleep disorder (REM Behavior Disorder).
The movie seems to fit right in with the Mumblecore hits “Lars and the Real Girl” and “Jeff Who Lives at Home” with its subdued tone, uncomfortable moments, and seemingly schlumpy characters, but it is based in truth. That truth rings through — as evidenced by its current 86% at Rotten Tomatoes — and creates a charmingly believable effect.
Featuring featuring Birbiglia himself, Marc Maron, James Rebhorn, and Kristen Schaal, the film was co-written by Mike Birbiglia and This American Life’s Ira Glass. The film will be playing at the Prytania with the last showing at 10:00 p.m. Thursday, September 13.
