Southeastern’s Volleyball team defeats Jacksonville State University

The Lady Lions volleyball team defeated The Lady Tigers 3 to 1 on Sept. 14 (this weekend) at Lion’s home court to wrap up the SLU Lion Up Classic.

“Edo, a senior from Baton Rouge, was named to the All-Tournament Team for her efforts. She led the way for Southeastern, hitting at a .412 clip and posting a career-high 18 kills.

Sam Gomez, a junior from Mandeville, Louisiana, contributed an additional 11 kills and Baylee Laskoskie dished out 38 assists to aid the Lady Lions’ offensive attack. She also had a hand in on two of the team’s six blocks.

Alexis Pratt (17), Lizzy Low (15) and Caroline Golden(10), a junior from Mandeville, each reached double-figures in digs.

Low, a freshman from Lafayette, Louisiana, and Laskoskie, a freshman from Spring, Texas, served up four and three aces, respectively. “

The Lady Lions started the first set off with a 2-0 lead. JSU came back with a mighty force to tie up the set 9-9, however, a spike from #21-Edo came to break the tie (9-9) and brought the Lady Lions up by one (10-9).

In the midst of this battle, Jackson State called their first time out as the Lady Lions surge to the forefront with a 3 point lead. The Lady Lions took the first set (25-18).

The second set started off as a push and pull between SLU and Jacksonville State University (JSU). After a constant tug-a-war, JSU goes on a 5 point run, but SLU hoped to bridge that gap.

Despite all efforts, JSU took the 2nd set (25-17).

Lady Lions put their heads together and came for revenge in the third set. After circumstances similar to the first set, SLU won that set also (25-18).

At this point in the match,  SLU just needed one more set to secure the win.

Right out of the gate was a kill by #4-Wilkerson to start off the last set.

Then further into the match, three consecutive serves by #19-Low resulted in three no returns by JSU. Lady Lions took lead and the momentum. That momentum led to a match point by #21-Edo (24-18).

After a key play by SLU, the Lady Lions took the final set (25-18) and won the match (3:1).

Next Wednesday (Sept.18) SLU Volleyball will be on the road at Mississippi Valley State at 6 pm. Stay tuned!
