Four contestants are preparing for the 2017 Miss Southeastern Pageant this week by helping the Children’s Miracle Network while raising money for the People’s Choice Award portion of the pageant.
This year’s contestants are Tonykea Alford, Kristyn Gary, Jamie Dearman and Trista Kramer.
The winner, crowned Miss Southeastern, will win a scholarship that helps pay for three semesters of tuition. Other scholarships are available for the runners up.
Jamie Dearman said what winning the crown would mean for her:
“For me, it means a chance to pursue my dream of going into the Master’s program at Southeastern,” said Dearman. “It also would be a privilege to represent Southeastern and the wonderful staff, students, and faculty that make up the Southeastern family. I’m looking forward to just the new experience the most. This is something way outside of my comfort zone and I’m really glad I decided to have this experience.”
Kristyn Gary said what she would tell future contestants about being in the Miss Southeastern Pageant.
“I would advise them to enjoy the experience and soak in the moments. I have learned so much about myself throughout the preparation process and it has been a wonderful experience,” said Gary.
The pageant, sponsored by Southeastern’s Campus Activities Board, consists of different sections that the contestants compete in. These sections include an interview, on-stage question, talent, swimsuit competition, opening dance and formal attire.
For one year, the pageant’s winner will represent Southeastern at events such as Homecoming, Strawberry Jubilee and the Christmas parade.
