[Mandeville, LA] – “The Mystic Krewe of Mardi Paws” put their best paws forward, and with tails wagging, they waddled down the Mandeville lakefront on March 5. The parade rolled at 2 p.m. and besides canines there was the occasional goat and pig.
The parade benefits the Ian Somerhalder Foundation (ISF) and also serves as a fundraiser for non-profits that help Kids and K-9’s.
“I came with my dog Ruby Rose in order to raise awareness for the company Angels On Paws, which is a non-profit organization that trains dogs to be therapy dogs,” said Eleanor Rose Hunter, the owner of Angels On Paws.
The theme for the parade this year was “Mardi Paws 2017 Under the Big Top” which meant there was a sea of clowns, tigers, and lions. Krewe members threw beads, cups, stuffed cats, and the coveted rare gold dog droppings.
Elizabeth Obrian, a krewe member of Mardi Paws, said, “I’m from Virginia and I come down every year for this.”
Like any parade, “The Mystic Krewe of Mardi Paws” had a royal court. The canine king and queen were two border collies named Snap and Rocky.
There was also a costume contest, where winners with the best costume and float won a “poop” trophy and a PooPouri parade pack. Parade goers were also able to get food at one of the many concession stands set up along the lakefront.
