Dining Services and University Housing will be hosting Oktoberfest on campus on Oct. 28. It will take place outside of the Student Union from 4 to 7 p.m.
Oktoberfest is an annual celebration of German culture and tradition. Dining Services student worker Britni Vegas said they are excited to have this event, especially since they are including so many different elements this year. Along with all the booths of German food, there will also be games set up, a DJ, and the Monster (energy drink) truck giving away prizes.
Aramark Marketing Director Fallon Myers said, “We are really excited for Oktoberfest. We are trying something new and having the entire event outdoors, so come check it out.”
Oktoberfest is just one of the events put on by Dining Services and these events are just a fraction of what the department actually takes on everyday. Vegas said that there are many aspects of the department including updating the menu and questioning students as to what sorts of things they want to see in our union and other dining locations. Her job specifically entails keeping up with their social media accounts as well as setting up flyers and updating promotions and sales.
In addition to her actual duties, Vegas’s favorite part of her job is boosting and upholding the morale of the staff. Aramark and other clients give them so much in means of free goodies and she loves giving them out to hardworking and deserving staff members. Showing them they are appreciated and are doing a great job is a must since they do so much for the rush of college students in and out of their facilities every day.
Vegas said, “I enjoy working here. I feel like I’m actually making a difference, whether it is helping and getting to know the staff or making changes that students want to see.”
