[Mandeville]- A new place for youth to hang out with friends and play video games has arrived in the city of Mandeville.
Open World Video Game Cafe, located at 2355 Florida St, is a place that offers a variety of games on different platforms with the main focus being on PC gaming.
For owner Gary Innerarity, the timing was right to open a video game place like Open World.
“We aspire to be the ultimate gaming center and provide the best service for gaming technology like video game system repair,” said Innerarity, owner of Open World. “We also want to make it to where anybody can come to us for their computer issues.”
Co-owner Devi Anderson said that they hold annual late night events on Fridays where the youth can come and do anything that they want that is video game related.
“We grill hamburgers and we allow the customers to play any games they want for a flat fee of $10,” said Devi Anderson, co-owner of Open World. “They can stay at the store till 6 a.m. and just play video games and hang out with friends.”
PR representative Stephen Tolbert said that there are also video game tournaments that are hosted during the day.
“We host video game tournaments using a variety of games including Super Smash Bros Brawl, FIFA, League of Legends, and many more,” said Tolbert.
Innerarity said he is proud that Open World has received positive feedback from the community.
“Open World has affected the youth in Mandeville positively because they have a place to play video games and hangout with a friends in a safe location,” said Innerarity.
“We have had many sheriffs on their night patrols come in and tell us they are proud that we created a place that is keeping the youth off the streets,” said Innerarity.
IT representative Peyton Burger said that there is also free ping pong and the old arcade machines such as Pac-man and Galaga are free to use at no cost.
Open World is open on Monday-Sunday from 10 a.m.-midnight.
