[HAMMOND] – On Tuesday, Nov. 21, the Southeastern Men’s Lacrosse Club held their second fundraiser event, the “Gobble Wobble,” at Walk-On’s in Covington.
The club is going into its second season with major changes and hefty dues, making this event an important one to start the spring off right.
On top of a new and growing team, the club has a new interim head coach, Chris Bourque. With coaching skills in almost every sport, Bourque has what it takes to bring the team to the next level.
“I was really excited when the team invited me to be their interim head coach,” Bourque said. “I love the game and the guys are motivated. It makes my job that much easier.”
The event at Walk-On’s introduced Bourque as its interim head coach and sold t-shirts and koozies to those in attendance. A $10 entrance fee for adults and $5 fee for students went directly to the team’s dues fund, with extra donations also accepted.
Friends and family came out to enjoy food, drinks and music all to support a good cause. President and founder of the club, a senior occupational safety, health and environment major David DiPiazza encourages all to attend their several home games this year in Strawberry Stadium during the spring 2018 semester.
“We’ve got a busier schedule this year for sure,” DiPiazza said. “I’m excited to play in Strawberry Stadium again next semester and I hope we get more attention and excitement from students, too. Not that many people around here know about lacrosse, so this benefit event and our home games can really get people talking, and that’s our goal.”
Team member Brady Bankston is also gearing up for another lacrosse-filled spring. A player since high school, he’s looking forward to a bigger and better future for the Southeastern Lacrosse Club.
“Events like this are great because you can bring anyone. My parents were there supporting, their friends were and even all of our friends that aren’t on the team can come out to raise awareness of what we’re doing here,” Bankston said. “The support gets us fired up, too, knowing we have people cheering us on and there for us.”
The Southeastern Men’s Lacrosse Club is a non-profit collegiate club organization with plans to travel to Texas and throughout Louisiana multiple times this coming spring. To donate, join or support the team, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
