Faith Bible Church seasonal thanks and seasonal giving

On November 23, the 16th annual Turkey train drive was held at Faith Bible Church at11448 N. Columbia St. in Covington. The turkey drive consists of a turkey and two bags of groceries with all the goodies needed to serve up a hot thanksgiving dinner. FBC gives out 250 turkeys annual each year during the drive. In order to have received a turkey, the receiver had to sign up at the upward community, which is affiliated with FBC center, between November 1-19 or until the last of 250 entries.

Debra Peters

Debra Peters, a member of Faith Bible Church who oversees the turkey drive this year said, “This is a wonderful way to give back to the community. I’ve been doing this for the last past five years, this would be impossible without the loving, caring, and dedication  of all who gives to make this drive possible”.

Phelicia Bates, a member of FBC, also a volunteer said, “This is so touching to know how many good people there are in the world. I love helping people and it’s a privilege and an honor to be able to help in the community. Growing up not having much, but knowing the love of my family is enough for me I know how important family is, so I just love being a part of bringing  other families closer,” said Bates

Sally Smith, a resident of Loranger said, “Thank God for the goodness of all who has given to the turkey drive allowing us to have a Thanksgiving dinner for our family”

Will Allen and volunteers

Will Allen, a member of FBC, who lives in Marrero, brought his softball team members out to lend a helping hand with the turkey drive. “This is a great way to teach the children early on in life to help one another. My goal is to keep the children active not only on the field but active within their surroundings”, said Allen.

Allen is trying to raise money for his boy’s trip to Arizona next year for the playoffs. The boy’s has helped in several different areas of Covington, Metairie, and Marrero. While giving time, to the communities the boy’s has also earned respect earning a few dollars that was donated towards their trip.Thanksgiving Turkey Train

Thanksgiving is about family and friends. It is a time to share memorable moments  and reflect back on the past and appreciate the present. Times are hard right now for a lot of us. Many have lost their jobs and the economy is down. We as Americans are blessed, yet many still complain. Show thanks by lending a helping hand, giving a heart of gratitude and showing thankfulness.
