Hammond – In merely a year since the organization was founded, the Southeastern Sustainability Society has pushed Southeastern Louisiana University to be one of the greenest universities in Louisiana.
To raise money for new outdoor recycling containers, the society recently organized a recycling drive at a home football game. The drive resulted in the acquisition of 22 new recycling containers that will be placed around campus.
With an emphasis on the importance of the environment, the Southeastern Sustainability Society is an asset for the university. Danilo Miranda, the organization’s president, states that the society will use the spring semester to focus on creating a campus community garden. The hope is that the garden will provide students an opportunity to grow their own food in an educational context.
