De-stress during finals with a free massage

Finals week is usually one of the most stressful times of the semester for students. Under a great deal of pressure to do well, many students find themselves losing sleep, headaches and studying late hours of the night. Being stressed can be emotionally and physically draining. However, SELU’s Rec Sports and Wellness Center has been able to help students de-stress during finals.

The Rec Sports and Wellness Center provide free ten-minute massages for students in the lobby of the Pennington Center during finals week.

“Our ten-minute massages are ten minutes of relaxation,” Rec Sports and Wellness Center Assistant Director of Health and Fitness Megan Mast stated. “Our LMT’s (licensed massage therapists) concentrate on neck, shoulders and arms, where students feel most tension from all of that studying”

Every finals week the Rec Sports and Wellness Center offers the free ten-minute massages Monday through Thursday from 10:30am-1:00pm.

“The free massages are wonderful,” Kinesiology senior Amber Langston said. “They don’t happen often, but when they do they’re pretty good.”

The massages are intended for students, however faculty and staff are welcome to enjoy a free ten-minute massage as well. To receive a massage students and staff must sign –up by visiting or calling the control desk at the Pennington Center.

“They love having this available,” Mast said. “They start calling the Control Desk the week before finals to see if the sign up sheet is ready.”

Students appreciate the free ten-minutes of relaxation. “Finals week is very stressful and we need things to help us de-stress,” said Criminal Justice freshmen Allen Eldridge. “A free ten-minute massage is a great help.”

Beginning in the Spring 2016 1-hour table massages will be by appointment available for $65. During the last week of each month and finals week massages will be half-off. For more information please visit
