Christmas is only a month away and New Orleans City Park’s Celebration in the Oaks exhibit is almost ready to greet the public.
On November 20 City Park hosted its annual Celebration in the Oaks Preview Party. For a small fee, partygoers received an exclusive viewing of this year’s holiday light show and décor.
Christmas trees decorated by several schools from New Orleans and surrounding
parishes lined the walkways. Colorful lights hung frm the oak trees and Louisiana animated displays wowed guests.
“This is so beautiful,” partygoer Sharon Watts said while gazing at the lights. “This puts me in the perfect holiday spirit.”
Preview party guests also enjoyed live music and good eats from local restaurants.
“I look forward to Celebration in the Oaks every year,” guest Charles Harrison said. “My wife and I drive from Alabama just for this.”
Celebration in the Oaks is a month long Christmas light display, filled with various New Orleans holiday themed attractions. The family-friendly light show, which occurs at night, has grown since its conception in the 1980s.
The Christmas light exhibit stretches across City Park. However, the main attraction areas are the Carousel Gardens amusement park, Storyland and the Botanical Gardens.
“The park is huge,” Watts said. “But I don’t mind walking every inch to see the lights.”
Celebration in the Oaks opens to the public November 27.
