Auxiliary Services extends the student experience beyond the classroom and strives to enhance the quality of campus life, for both residents and commuters. Envisioning the services offered by a university would normally bring to mind those of the academic or educational nature. However, there are other components to a successful college career which would not be considered academic. Those supplementary areas are served at Southeastern by the Auxiliary Services Division.
The Division is comprised of several departments offering a wide variety of services to SLU students. They include University Housing, Campus Dining, Campus Card Operations, Textbook Rental, Document Source Print and Mail Center, University Bookstore, Non-Credit Programs and the Event and Conference Services of both the War Memorial Student Union and the University Center. Most students utilize at least one of these services every day and never even realize they are benefiting from a Division whose entire mission is customer service and satisfied students. In fact, the Division stated focus is students, service and satisfaction.
One way that Auxiliary Services gauges the opinions and reactions of the student body is through their Student Advisory Board. It exists to gain feedback from active members of Southeastern’s campus about their services. They meet several times each semester to give their input on how things are working and benefiting their fellow students.
The Advisory Board’s first meeting was Sept. 15. New member Leah Dahmer said, “I found my first meeting more informative than I expected since I am only a freshman. I didn’t realize how much Auxiliary Services does for us as students and I came out of the meeting readily prepared to inform and answer questions from my friends and peers about many different topics.”
Another way to provide feedback to the department is to fill out the occasional surveys sent out by email. All opinions are valuable and help Auxiliary maintain a line of communication so that everything can be as satisfactory as possible.
The Auxiliary Services Division must also maintain positive working relationships with our community through its Event and Conference Services at the Student Union and the University Center. Organizations and groups throughout the region rely on Southeastern’s venues to host meetings, seminars, trade shows, banquets, and more. The responsibilities seem endless.
To get in touch or learn more, visit the Auxiliary page on Southeastern’s website or visit the office, Student Union Room 2408. Dahmer said, “One piece of information that I have been excited to share with my friends is that the return of Popeyes is coming soon.”
