It was all smiles yesterday evening at the Amite Public Library for the weekly Teen Club Meeting. Visitors baked and decorated Rice Krispies treats with the library staff. Kendra Brooks, librarian, guided the activities.
Each teen member shared his or her experiences of the past week with the group. Then the teens mulled over novels they would like to read and possible future projects. The staff allowed the teens come up with their own ideas.
“I wouldn’t say it’s just about entertainment, no,” says Brooks. “It’s also about boosting literacy, creativity, social skills, and teamwork.” Tangipahoa Parish Library’s Administrators Bianca Roberts and Barry Bradford are the organizers of this community outreach for the youth.
Volunteers may join the group in assisting their activities every Monday at 5 p.m. by visiting the front desk and simply asking to participate.
