London, England- Hyde Park was filled with people in the Olympic spirit on August 6, with some camping out in front of big screens watching the Olympics, and others flocking to the stage to see Team Great Britian mens gymnastics Olympic bronze medalists come on stage to celebrate their winnings.
The medalists made a few comments to the crowd, but were mainly there to be presented and celebrated for their medals. Before seeing them come on much of the crowd’s attention was glued to the big screen broadcasting the Olympics.
The crowd at the event ranged from young to old, but the majority watching the big screen were young people that got rowdy cheering and jeering at different points during the events. Emi Katoh said, “You know its different on a small screen and we just wanted to come grab a bite to eat and get more of the atmosphere.”
The event was sponsored by the mayor of London and is free to the public. BT London live will take place in Hyde and Victoria Park every day during the Olympics, and serve as a way to keep people in the spirit of the Olympics even if they are unable to attend events.
Other attractions of the evening included a performance from the R&B band Soul II Soul, kids games and several screenings of different Olympic events. Lynn Abbassi said, “We came because we were just curious. My granddaughter found it on the internet and told me about it.”
