The Lions pull out a victory against the Green Waves.
The Southeastern baseball team beat the Tulane Green Waves 8-5 after a dramatic comeback in the sixth and seventh innings.
The lions played the green waves on Tuesday, coming off of a long weekend tournament. Trailing 2-5 at the top of the sixth inning, the game wasn’t going well for the lions. By the end of the game their luck seemed to change when second baseman Carson Crites hit a three-run homer.
The lions began to turn the game around in the sixth inning when first baseman Derrick Mount was given a walk. Outfielder Drew Avans followed up Mount’s walk with a single which was quickly brought home by an RBI double from infielder Brennan Breaud and a two-run single from outfielder Jacob Seward. Southeastern entered the seventh inning with a renewed determination, having tied up the game 5-5.
The seventh inning began with infielder Taylor Schwaner hitting an infield single. “The team came out with the right energy. It took us a while to get rolling but once we did we didn’t look back” said Schwaner. What started out as a slow game for the lions was brought home for a win by the end of the seventh inning, when Crites smashed the ball into the far left field for a three- run homer.
The lions travel next to Houston Texas to take on 21-ranked Rice Friday at 6:30 pm for game one of a three game series.
