The Southeastern Louisiana University Kappa Nu chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha are hosting their annual spring semester Alpha Week themed Resurgence starting Mar. 19-25, 2017.

Their week will begin on Sunday with a church service at Beacon Light of Hammond and end with the Big Event on Saturday. The week-long events are a celebration of the fraternity charter day when founded in southeastern on March 22, 1975.

The chapter president Cedric Dent, Jr. said “The Kappa Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. is very excited for its upcoming annual Alpha Week March 19-25th, Alpha week is presented in the spring of each year, and consists of many events. For example, community service, crawfish boils, forums, car washes, etc. I, as the new president am very dedicated to providing not only students with fun but faculty as well. It is our job as a chapter to make sure this campus comes together for joyous occasions and that we do our job to preserve the campus culture. We plan to keep Alpha week alive for many more years to come.”

The Alpha week long event is named Resurgence and is defined to help with the theme; “An increase or revival after a period of little activity, popularity, or occurrence.” They have centered this theme around resurgence because they have not done an intake of new members since the fall of 2014.

The week events are centered on Wednesday, March 22, 2017, which is the charter’s day for the men of Kappa Nu. They will be celebrating in the quad 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. with “Pie an Alpha” where they will set up a booth that will charge you to throw a pie at members. Following that night will be the Train Like An Alpha and the crawfish boil that will be located in the Student Union Park starting at 7 p.m. til midnight and the show will start at 8 p.m.

The Train Like An Alpha is a competition of women who entered and are trained with the Kappa Nu members as they show their signature moves to the contestants. The show will be a women’s competition of who can dance the best they will be judged by a panel and could win a cash prize for their performance.

Each day will be designed for different events with their last event before The Big Event is their national program My Brothers Keeper. That is an organization that helps out the community to strive to change the health status of America and enhances the health and well-being of minorities.

The men of Alpha have two annual spring events that they host each year one being the Alpha week to celebrate the charter day and the other one is their celebration of the late Civil Rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. This event takes place every January as it usually consists of candlelights and a program MLK is honored not only because of his cause but also because he to was also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha.

The president of Kappa Nu stated, “if you are planning on attending one of our events, you can follow us on social media for updates @kappanualphas75 .”
